Tri Ramadani Wins Men’s Lead Qualification, Women Share Top Spot

While clouds dominated Wednesday’s boulder qualification, the Prague premiere of lead climbing at the centre court arena on Štvanice took place under sunny skies and high temperatures. The conditions suited Putra Tri Ramadani perfectly as he delivered two strong and consistent climbs to narrowly defeat boulder qualification winner Sorato Anraku, despite the Japanese climber topping the first route.

The 20-year-old Indonesian’s best World Cup result to date is sixth place from last year’s event in Koper, Slovenia.

Home fans were especially eager to see Adam Ondra, who delivered two solid performances (37+ and 32+) and comfortably advanced in 12th place. None of the other Czech men managed to qualify for Sunday’s semifinal.

The women’s competition took place alongside the men’s event and featured two dominant leaders. American climber Annie Sanders continued her excellent form, following up her victory at May’s World Climbing Series event in Wujiang, China, with a flawless qualification performance. Korea’s Chaehyun Seo also topped both routes, allowing the 2021 World Champion to share first place with her American rival.

To the delight of the Czech crowd, two home climbers delivered outstanding performances. Tereza Širůčková advanced to the semifinal for the third time in her career and did so from an impressive sixth place after climbing to 38 holds on the first route and 40+ on the second.

Her teammate Michaela Smetanová will also compete in Sunday’s semifinal. With scores of 37+ and 40+, she finished ninth and advanced through a lead qualification round for the second time this season.
