This year’s Prague stop of the World Climbing Series kicked off on Štvanice with the men’s qualification round. Favorites Sorato Anraku and Dohyun Lee advanced to the semifinals from the top spots in their respective qualification groups. Czech representative Lukáš Mokroluský also gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about.
Although the weather forecast predicted constant rain, conditions on Štvanice improved after an early morning shower, allowing fans to enjoy an exciting qualification round split into two groups.
Japan’s Sorato Anraku confirmed his role as the favorite in Group A by becoming the only climber to solve all five boulders and comfortably secure his place in Friday’s semifinal.
Czech climber Lukáš Mokroluský came close to matching him after climbing flawlessly through the first four boulders, but failed to score even a zone on the final problem. Even so, his performance was more than enough to advance as the only Czech climber in the semifinals.
Group B saw higher overall success, with five climbers recording a perfect number of tops. However, it was Prague winner from 2023 and 2024 Dohyun Lee who needed the fewest attempts — just seven — to secure first place. The Korean climber therefore remains in contention for a third victory in the Czech capital. Defending champion Mejdi Schalck of France also advanced to the semifinals.
The men’s boulder semifinal is scheduled for Friday at 12:00.
